Miss Fisher is back!

I love the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries (yeah, made loads of videos for that too a couple of years ago here) but sadly it was discontinued after 3 seasons (what is UP with cool shows I love like this one and Anne with an E being canceled after 3 seasons?!?). A crowdfunder came which I too supported at the time and lo and behold, we have a new Miss Fisher movie coming! As one of the crowdfunders, I have received e-mail updates about the movie production while it was ongoing and now the project is finally finished and ready to show.

So far it will air in cinemas only in Australia in February 2020 but I read a while back that it will also become available on streaming services, I think also only in Australia at first. The trailer in this article is alas geoblocked, so not viewable outside Australia (unless you use a VPN which I’m not using right now), but I saw a teaser trailer for it a few months ago in my e-mail crowdfunder alerts, which is also up on Twitter:

The synopis (taken from Wikipedia) is: “After freeing a young Bedouin girl from her unjust imprisonment in Jerusalem, Phryne Fisher begins to unravel a decade-old mystery concerning priceless emeralds, ancient curses and the truth behind the suspicious disappearance of Shirin’s forgotten tribe.”

This was filmed in Morocco, nowhere actually near Jerusalem, so it’ll be nice to see what they made of Jerusalem in this movie.

And today I see a little Q&A with Nathan Page who stars as Jack Robinson on the show (scroll through the images in the Instagram post to see the Q&A):

He hints there could be two more movies after this one if this one is received well. I’m curious! I wonder when the rest of the world outside of Australia can see this. Maybe on Netflix again? Time will tell. In any case, I’m excited that it’s happened. Now all I need is a little patience to actually get to watch this myself…

            1. No, did not fund that. That was for the dvd or the streaming or something and I didn’t trust them to make it happen because promises were made and then broken constantly. I did pre order on Amazon but that got cancelled. I was lucky enough to go to a screening of that movie in Newcastle, though, in spring of 2018. Maybe you read my posts on that? I briefly met The Armitage then. 😊

              2. I had met him once before briefly at The Old Vic stage door 5 years ago, Mr Esther was there with me at that time. My second second time meeting him in Newcastle was even better (good memory on the phone signing!) because the setting was more intimate and he took more time to meet people and talk to them. I still smile thinking back to it.

    Oh yay, good news for you then! I’m so behind on everything, I haven’t watched this through yet (story of my life—my TBR and TBW lists are endless), but I watched a few episodes and I’m in love with the aesthetics. If I thought I could pull it off and had the discipline to actually style my hair, I would totally go for Phryn‘s cut. 😍😍

    1. It really is a beautiful show, with great styling and costumes. Feminist too and fun. I’m really glad there’s a new chapter.
      Yeah, the look wouldn’t be good on me either but nice to dream.

        Not in Australia unfortunately. I live in Virginia Beach, VA and the con is in Richmond, VA in early July. So excited about the movie which will be on Acorn TV.

    Apparently it has something to do with the way that actors’ contracts for tv series are typically written — I saw something about this w/r/t Berlin Station. Salaries go up significantly if the series persists beyond a certain point. I guess it’s a way to get new series made (rewarding risk taking)?

        In the negotiation, the actor to agrees to work for less than they ideally would for three years (risk on their part, but reduces immediate risk for the producer who is paying less than they might have). If the series catches on, then presumably the producer profits (rewarding the risk of making the series) and the actor’s salary rises (rewarding sacrifice / risk of working for less than the might have). If it doesn’t catch on, then less is lost in monetary terms (reducing costs of risk).
