Colin, Cannes and fine eyes

These pics are from last week but I’m just coming across them now… Colin was back in Cannes, as far as I could tell, to support his wife Livia’s ethical fashion campaign.

Colin & Livia Firth Cannes 2017

Doesn’t he look lovely in a grey suit? I like Livia’s outfit too, it’s a dress that used to be owned by her mother.  On a side note: the article in this previous link (and other news sources I have seen) also refers to Colin asking for Italian citizenship next to his British one (Livia is Italian). He is very opposed to Brexit, so it looks like this application has something to do with that. End of side note and back to Cannes: Colin and Livia looked dapper here as well, with Livia again wearing a dress that looks lovely…

In Cannes, Colin looked very pleased, adorable and somewhat goofy, almost fatherly, hugging a young lady…

But the shot I really loved was this one…

Colin Firth Salma Hayek Juliette Binoche Cannes 2017

Colin sandwiched between Salma Hayek and Juliette Binoche. That look on Colin’s face is so tender, amused and adorable…. sigh! I just saw Salma Hayek on the Graham Norton show last week, she is quite funny, I never really knew that about her! Colin seems to like her too. 🙂 Not that Colin is in love with Salma but the look on his face makes me think of this Barbra Streisand song from her movie Yentl

It looks like Colin and Mr Darcy still have an important thing in common: they can happily meditate on the very great pleasure which a pair of fine eyes in the face of a pretty woman can bestow. 😉

Livia & Colin & a Loving movie

I’ve been meaning to post these pictures for a week now, finally getting around to it! A week and a half ago Colin Firth and wife Livia were at the London film festival and I completely fell in love with Livia’s suit…

The woman has a bit of a bohemian fashion style and I often find myself loving what she wears. And it’s ethical fashion too, as she is a warrior for ethical fashion, even has her own consulting company called EcoAge.

And the other night Colin was in LA, promoting a movie he co-produced called Loving about an interracial marriage in 1950s Viriginia and how the couple fought to have bans on interracial marriage lifted. I can’t tell you how curious I am to see this movie (even if Colin isn’t in it!). Here’s a picture with lead actress Ruth Negga and director Jeff Nichols…

And this following picture from the other night made me smile, because it looks like Colin has some lipstick on his lips! Is it from Ruth Negga?

To round this rambling post off… here’s a still from the movie and the Loving poster (Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton are the lead actors)…

I think the movie is even getting a little Oscar buzz… it has gotten great reviews and a standing ovation in Cannes in any case. Here’s the trailer in case reading this has made you curious:

Colin at the London BJ premiere

And I was right, the man looked dashing at the Bridget Jones’s Baby premiere last night!

He also took a little time for his fans…

I always love seeing Colin Firth with his wife Livia. Before she went to the premiere, Livia (an eco-warrior for sustainable fashion) posted a video on her Instagram about her choice of outfit.

Then later she shared this snap of her and Colin on the pink carpet…

… but I found many more cute shots of the couple together!

I love the way she looks at Colin here, and he at her. It’s so lovely seeing an ‘old married couple’ like that look comfortable and apparently still happy together! A man with a good marriage is very sexy… There are bound to be ups and downs after so many years together but ultimately they stick together because he knows how to make his woman happy and she knows how to make him happy. I find that extremely appealing. ♥

Emma Thompson (credited as co-writer, but I think mostly for her own character) was also there with her daughter Gaia. This woman always exudes irrepressible glee, I just love her! Emma apparently steals the show in the scenes she’s in, which I can very well imagine, judging from what I have seen in trailers.

And here’s a shot of the main cast (Patrick Dempsey, Renee Zellweger and Colin of course)

I also found a nice little interview with Colin HERE (filmed a few days before the premiere during the press junket) about the movie, his co stars and if there could be even more Bridget Jones movies.

What maybe pleases me most, however, is that my go-to movie magazine “Empire” gives this latest Bridget Jones movie a 4 star review!  They say: “Though the story occasionally stretches credibility, the warmth and wit so reminiscent of the original Bridget Jones’s Diary propels you along, being due in large part to the return of one woman: director Sharon Maguire. […] While the dynamic between Zellweger and Firth is as solid as ever, her pairing with Dempsey never delivers; him playing a one-note nice guy with a megawatt smile.” This means, I hope, that Bridget wisely chooses Mark Darcy in the end! Empire’s final verdict: “More than a match for the original, the third outing for Bridget has a solid story with holes you’ll forgive thanks to the much-missed onscreen magic created by a director and her leading woman.

I have since read a few more positive reviews, looks like this movie may not be such a disaster after all! Fingers crossed that I’ll feel that way as well when I see it (I still feel nothing can touch the first BJ movie) and that this is the worthy sequel the second BJ movie never was.

Colin & Livia Firth in Cannes

Colin Firth was in Cannes these past few days, looking sharp again and accompanied by his wife Livia, who had her own business interests to represent there as well.

First we have the obligatory airport shots…

… and shots taken outside his hotel…

Livia is a huge campaigner for sustainable fashion and has her own Eco Age company doing so. She lobbies, makes documentaries, gives talks, and when accompanying Colin promotes eco friendly (and labour-conditions-friendly) fashion. Her latest call is to only buy clothes you will wear at least 30 times (oh my, she should see my closet… the stuff in there is so old, I generally wear everything 1000 times!). She regularly wears clothes her mum used to wear and she did so again in Cannes, wearing a pink dress her mum was pictured wearing in 1968:

And Colin is there to support Livia’s projects when he can…

The Firths were also at the Chopard party (also pictured with French actress Marion Cotillard) promoting fair and sustainable jewellery.

And then later came the premiere of the new movie Loving, about a history-making interracial couple in 1950s Virginia, a movie that Colin co-produced. I so very much want to see this movie, the topic is right up my alley! I love this picture where Colin delightedly embraces the film’s star Joel Edgerton at a party:

Of course there was also the Loving premiere itself, with the Firths looking very dapper and beautiful…

On her instagram Livia mentioned wearing that premiere dress before:

And after all that glamour, the Firths are back in London again… their cat seems surprised!

… and Colin is filming the Kingsmen sequel (in a pink vest and apparently not dead) in Greenwich! The place we were at only two weeks ago!

Colin Firth at the Berlinale

So, today Colin Firth was at the Berlinale, promoting his new movie Genius.

Where there were only a few pictures of Richard Armitage at the Berlinale, there are quite a few more of Colin Firth! And he was looking very dapper as well! A little more casual than Richard, in tutleneck, jeans and jacket… just have to share these:

I may be partial to 3 piece suits, but I am also partial to a nice (black) turtleneck! Have been trying to get my husband to wear one for 24 years now but alas, he will not oblige. Maybe it’s an Oedipus/Daddy issue, because in later years my dad used to wear turtlenecks a lot. Colin Firth wore a particularly nice one in the first Bridget Jones movie (I just loved that lavender/black combo):

BJ (225)

And when he leans in to kiss her in her flat, all tall-dark-handsome-turtlenecked-and-black-coated, I just do not get how she is even able to resist him in that moment!

BJ (247)

Luckily it all ends well in the snow…

Anyway, I digress…

I don’t know what it is with these suited and turtlenecked men – I just find them extremely appealing! Here, have another Berlinale-Colin:

And here is suited Colin with his wife Livia at a BAFTA gala last week in London, all dressed in eco-fashion (Livia is an eco-fashion pioneer/warrior/activist, with her own company called Eco-Age):

I just love this man and this couple. 🙂
