Thank you for the laughs, Emma!

Emma Chambers, star of The Vicar of Dibley and Notting Hill, has died.

Emma Chambers

I adored her in both the TV series (I have seen every episode!) and that movie. Here, to honour her, are a few clips.

At the end of each The Vicar of Dibley episode, after the credits rolled, Geraldine (Dawn French) would always tell Alice (Emma Chambers) an iffy joke and more often than not, Alice would be appalled. Those end jokes always cracked me up! And not necessarily because of the jokes themselves but mostly because of the way Alice reacted…

And then, in the absolute last Vicar of Dibley episode she gets help from Harry (Richard Armitage)…

Oh, Emma was so funny! I was in tears of laughter when in this following fantasy sequence, that sees Harry marry someone other than Geraldine, she gave the finger (at around 20 seconds into this video). The video won’t embed so click on this image to see it (opens in a new tab)…

I also love this part from Notting Hill when Honey (i.e. Emma) meets famous actress Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) and goes all gooey, which is so very funny, mortifying and relatable!

Emma Chambers was lovely. She wasn’t only funny, she also exuded a real warmth and depth of feeling, like here at Geraldine’s & Harry’s wedding…

She passed away at only 53 years of age, far too young! May her memory be for a blessing.
