Paul Campbell rocks!

I think most of my readers won’t know who Paul Campbell is. He is (to me) one of the best actors in those Hallmark movies I like to watch on occasion. He is relaxed, real, not overly soppy and funny too in the movies I have seen him in. He has made two or three Hallmark movies I really like and when he makes a new one, I’m always ready to tune in.

So, I follow him on Twitter and thus know that in a week he has a new Hallmark movie coming up called Wedding Every Weekend. It co-stars Kimberley Sustad, another no nonsense Hallmark actor I like. They had great chemistry in a Hallmark movie they did together that I really liked a while ago (A Godwink Christmas, picture above on the right), so I already thought this might be fun.

Now it turns out that one of the weddings these two will be attending within this new movie is a gay wedding, which is really out there for a Hallmark movie and already I am liking the sound of this even more!

Over on Twitter, Paul Campbell has been getting encouragement for starring in a movie which features a gay marriage but he has also been getting flak from conservative Christians. His stance has been one of patient opposition to homophobic views and I’m loving it. Read for yourself (clicking on the screencapped images will take you to the Twitter messages themselves), he started with tweeting this…

And this is what unfolded…

And this…

And this…

And this…

And then this…

And finally this…

That ‘wonderful lifestyle’ tweet has now been deleted, I see. Anyway, I love how calmly Paul is replying to these homophobic comments. He’s friendly, tries to inject some humour, but is very clear in his view that love is love 🏳️‍🌈. Kudos to him for doing this with class and respect! And great that Hallmark is slowly trying to take some steps towards more diversity.

Speaking slightly tongue in cheek: I feel about this somewhat how I felt about the increasing inclusion of women in combat roles in the military. Like simultaneously: excellent! and uch, the military, though. Like, if there’s a right to be represented in kitschy made for tv movies, then yes! great! But …. the product. (Emphasizing this is tongue in cheek because I know you really enjoy these from time to time.)

    1. LOL! I know how much you ‘love’ the product. 🙂
Yes, I really do enjoy some to these kitsch movies for mindless fun. Some make me really cringe but others can relax my brain and Paul Campbell is one of the actors who does this really well for me. So yeah, I’d love to see more diversity in Hallmark kitsch romances and am really glad it’s starting to happen.

I think it’s a sign that not just the entertainment companies are taking greater inclusion more seriously, but that it’s increasingly seen as artistically significant, or as material that would be artistically significant to ever larger groups of people, and that’s great. Same sex attraction is definitely not limited to the sub rosa venues of pulp fiction, fan fic, etc., any more.

  3. I have never heard of this actor, but this kind of thing is exactly what would indeed make me seek out one of his movies. I’d be forever inclined to have a positive attitude towards him, purely because of the decency and class he has shown in these responses. Class act! Thanks for bringing him to our attention, Esther!

    1. They are still Hallmark movies, so if you ever do check them out, be warned there is cheesiness. It’s just that his seem a little less cheesy than most. 🙂 And now with this movie and his defence of same sex marriage – yep, I too am even more inclined towards him than I already was!

  4. Esther Paul is a gem!! Good for him for standing his ground and he has dignity and grace and a great sense of humor as well as being quite clever! 😉👍👏
I cringe at some of this but then sadly there are people who say they are liberal and attack others who don’t believe the way they do too
