First we get Twitter spoilers from the man himself on his Twitter account with guitar in hand!
Then we get some really clever sleuthing fans ferreting out that Richard has started following the @MidLifeMovie page on Twitter, a page for an upcoming movie called Mid Life Crisis! The excitement grows when he starts following more Mid Life related pages and the movie page follows Richard back! So, the evidence is really mounting… The synopsis on IMDB says about this movie: “Four friends reform their high school band to finally capture their dream, and in the process become an overnight sensation as the joke entry on the UK’s biggest talent show.” And yes, I am slowly allowing myself to get excited for this! This sounds like it will be something very different from what Richard has done before and a light-hearted movie for a change as well! Sounds like the man is challenging himself yet again.
I remember when another favourite actor of mine announced he would do a singing movie. Yep, Colin Firth in Mamma Mia. I know it’s super kitsch and people are either in the hate-it or love-it camp for this one. I’m in the love-it camp, despite it being over the top and the singing not quite living up to expectations all the time. My love for it has a lot to do with the (mid life) cast of the movie and I admit I really liked seeing Colin doing his sweet little song on the boat – also with a guitar in hand!
And, come on, who didn’t crack up at Colin, Pierce Brosnan and Stellan Skarsgard strutting around in spandex during the end credits?! That alone was worth the price of the movie ticket!
So… my question… dare I hope to see Richard in spandex in his Mid Life Crisis movie??? I mean, these men were in their mid life crises as well, after all. A girl can dream…
Spot on, Esther! Let’s laugh a bit about our mid-life existence and enjoy the antics of some mid-lifers. I liked Mamma Mia, too, and am a huge fan of spoofs like Spinal Tap. So if RA is going to do a comedy for a change – bravo! And if he dons some heavy leather, bonus!

You know what? I’ve never actually seen Spinal Tap! Heard of, but never seen it. Methinks I need to correct that!
I love the idea of Richard doing comedy for a change… and music… and singing… and possibly wearing something very form-fitting and chest-revealing? We’ll see… 😉

Spinal Tap is an absolute hoot. Recommended!
You know what I like even more about the whole music + Richard idea? The opportunity to see the man move to music… Plus, there is nothing sexier than a guitarist mid-riff and a guitarist’s midriff…

Nice play on words there!
I’m already working on getting to watch Spinal Tap… should not be a problem. 🙂
Ah, yes, another great point, seeing Richard move to music! One of the other reasons why I loved “Mamma Mia” is that I could watch Colin Firth (and Pierce Brosnan) dance. 🙂

Hehe, I like both riffs and midriffs… especially when by and on TDH men. Enjoy Spinal Tap – you and your hubs will absolutely love it, I guarantee. And once you have seen that, check out “Best in Show”, another brilliant spoof by the same makers, set in the dog show scene.

I had such a different look in mind for costumes – now my head is all over the place. I liked Mama Mia also, because I like the idea that Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth have no problem lightening up. I also recommend Spinal Tap and Best in Show.

To be honest, I had a different look in mind as well – but then I thought of Colin and the whole Mamma Mia thing sprung to mind and I got really giddy about it! 🙂
Thanks also for the show recommendations! I’m working on watching them.

Hmm, somehow I doubt spandex will be the look, but if it is, he sure has the body for it!

Nah, I don’t think spandex will be the look either… unless they are a real campy band (she said with a sprinkle of hope). 😉

I’m definitely up for Armitage’s character revisiting that leather jacket look!

Oh I want the pants! Gigs too hot for jackets we need vests or as a minimum well worn v short sleaved black ts. Oh why can’t we pick the styling 😂

Or go back to the black leather pants look a la Guy of Gisborne. This reminds me that way back when fans made a “Havoc Tour” Guy of Gisborne rock shirt for Richard! You can read about that here (scroll down a bit): http://armitagefanblog.blogspot.nl/2009/10/her-highness-heathra.html
He should wear that at some point in the movie, wouldn’t that be cool?

Oh gosh, YES! And an open shirt… or tight T-shirt… Yep, I am going to love this movie!

LOL! I had totally missed the end credits trio in Mamma Mia. Thanks for the laugh! And I’m also posting your link here on my blog post today. Cheers! ;->

Go and watch them! First it’s Meryl and the girls singing, then they delve into “Waterloo” and then men come on. I could watch that in loop forever…
Thanks in advance for the link-love. 🙂

That loop is brilliant! I notice it’s Colin and Stellan who have the hip action down… Pierce needs to loosen up a little. LOL

Yeah… it’s like he was thinking “James Bond would never do this!” I love that he did it, though, and I love that Colin and Stellan went all out!

Did you read that in the Guardian? “Jude Law: spandex worries led me to reject Superman role”.
Une autre facette des talents de Richard avec un contre emploi, c’est prometteur!

No, I hadn’t read that. And yes, I agree that this sounds very promising. 🙂
