30 Day Movie Challenge – Day 9

Day 9 – Least favourite movie of your favourite actor

Well, my favourite actor is Richard Armitage and he hasn’t done that many movies yet. So far it’s basically only The Hobbit trilogy (which was masterful), Captain America (a very small role) and Into the Storm.  He has some movies coming up that I am really looking forward to but they have yet to see the light of day…

I could say that Richard as Naboo fighter in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace  would be the answer to this movie challenge question but I don’t know which fighter he is and while his role may not be memorable, I did think the movie was alright.

So, I’ll just include Richard’s TV work in this question as well, as I’ve seen everything he has done from North & South onwards (and later also saw some earlier things, like Sparkhouse and Cold Feet). Even when doing that, taking his TV work into account as well, I have to say that the story & part I enjoyed least (goodie, baddie or otherwise) was in a movie after all! Yep, I’ll just say it: I wasn’t too keen on Into the Storm and his portrayal of Gary Fuller.

Don’t get me wrong, he was heroic in it, he did the physical stuff well and I found him adorable to look at – I love him in glasses…

And the way he puts his hands on his hips while talking to his kids reminds me of how my dad used to stand when he talked to us kids when I was younger…

But despite those positives, the movie was really just so-so. It was all about the tornadoes and the special effects, there really was little depth of character. It was just people running around getting wet, thrown around by wind and trying to save themselves. Also, I found it impossible to get past Richard’s American accent. I can’t judge how good it was, but it felt forced to me… or maybe I’m just so used to hearing him speak in an English accent that the American one doesn’t do it for me… Yes, it was pretty exciting stuff to watch in the cinema but I felt the 1996 tornado movie Twister with Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton was way better. I don’t know how the effects would compare (Into the Storm has the advantage of being newer and the effects did look good) but storywise Twister was better for sure. Into the Storm was forgettable to me as soon as I left the cinema except, of course, for the fact that it has Richard in it.

Despite the movie not really doing it for me, let me still end with this nice image of Richard in the movie (picture courtesy of RichardArmitageNet.com)…

  1. I watched this film a few times, slow TV nights…It was your typical twister movie, and don’t get me wrong, I adore Richard Armitage, but he just did not seem comfortable in this role….However, I watched it because he was in it,and only for that reason
